Boucher explains why Hardik Pandya became the captain of the Mumbai Indians in place of Rohit Sharma

The Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher has shared his thoughts on the team’s decision to start Hardik Pandya in place of Rohit Sharma in the upcoming IPL season.

It was, in my opinion, just a cricketing decision. We saw the window period to get Hardik back as a player. For me it’s a transition phase. A lot of people don’t understand in India, people get quite emotional. But you know you take the emotions away from it. I think it’s just more of a cricketing decision that was made and I do think it is going to bring the best out of Rohit as a person as a player. Just let him go out and enjoy and score some good runs,” Mark Boucher says on Smash.

It was, in my opinion, just a cricketing decision. The window to see Hardik return to the playing field was visible. It’s a transitional period for me. Many people in India are unaware that although people there get very emotional, you can remove those feelings from the situation. I believe the choice was made more from a cricket perspective. And I do believe it will bring out the best in both Rohit the player and the person. Just let him go out and enjoy and score some good runs,” Mark Boucher says on Smash Sports podcast.
