‘Enjoying’ Bazball, Kuldeep says, ‘It has made bowlers plan how to restrict runs’

Kuldeep Yadav, a left-arm wristspinner for India, expressed that he relished the opportunity to experience England’s Bazball strategy for the first time in Visakhapatnam. He noted that it not only increased the number of wicket-taking opportunities but also forced bowlers to consider restricting batters in Test matches.

“Before the third Test against England begins in Rajkot on February 15, I would say that you’re not used to teams attacking you with this kind of approach [Bazball], but it also involves you a lot more,” Kuldeep remarked. “Being a spinner, it helps you concentrate more on your bowling technique and style.

“Normally, when you play a Test match, your only concern is how you want to get the ball out of the bat, not about the batters attacking you. However, this time, the strategy is different because they are attacking, so you also need to think through ways to limit them. You have numerous opportunities to take wickets when they play shots. It’s captivating. I really enjoyed the last game, which was my first [against Bazball] and it’s good for cricket.

Kuldeep Yadav was only Kuldeep’s ninth Test match since his March 2017 debut. It was his first in more than half a year. India took a 143-run lead in the first innings thanks to three of Kuldeep’s four wickets, helping them tie the five-Test series 1-1.

Kuldeep grinned and responded, “It’s been good,” to the question of finally getting a chance in Test cricket. In every test I’ve taken, I’ve done well. It feels good to see the stats, and I have three five-fors. I’m overjoyed.”
