Quetta Gladiators’ captain Sarfaraz Ahmed might be replaced

Quetta Gladiators' captain Sarfaraz Ahmed might be replaced

Although Sarfaraz was initially named captain on PSL draft day, franchises can make changes afterward.

The franchise has undergone a reshuffle in its backroom staff, with Moin Khan transitioning from head coach to director and Shane Watson, a former Gladiators player, taking over as coach. Shaun Tait, the former Pakistan bowling coach, has been appointed as the Gladiators’ fast-bowling coach as they seek to reverse their fortunes from being the most consistent PSL team to the most underperforming in the last four years.

Cricketbetting.asia indicates that Watson supports the idea of a change in captaincy and will be part of the consultation. While no successor has been officially announced, potential candidates include Rilee Rossouw, who returned to Gladiators from Multan Sultans, and Saud Shakeel, a domestic favorite.

Nadeem Omar, expressing his viewpoint, mentioned that the franchise hasn’t decided on Sarfaraz’s future but acknowledges his contributions. Sarfaraz, currently in Australia with Pakistan’s Test side, offered to resign if Quetta desired. The decision will be made after discussions with Shane Watson.

Despite Sarfaraz’s quieter performance in the last two years, factors like PCB’s unceremonious ouster played a role. The Gladiators, once consistent playoff contenders, have struggled in recent years, finishing bottom or second from bottom each time and missing the playoffs for four consecutive years.
