The last frontier. South Africa has shown to be that for India. India has visited South Africa for eight Test tours since the country’s readmission to the international cricket league. The three-match series that ended in a 1-1 draw in 2010–11 was the closest they ever got to victory.

It was considered, by both experts and players, India’s “best opportunity” to win a Test series in South Africa two years ago. They wasted the opportunity, winning the first game but losing the next two.

There are just two Tests in this series, one in Centurion and one in Cape Town. The first-place team will have an insurmountable lead. While preparing for the T20 World Cup and still reeling from the disappointment of the ODI World Cup.

However, as they discovered the previous time, it’s easier said than done. Temba Bavuma and his team will be driven to continue their winning streak at home against India. They will also be ready to bid a fitting farewell to their former captain, Dean Elgar, who is set to retire at the end of this series.

South Africa’s task will be to settle into the Test format as soon as possible—they haven’t played red-ball cricket since March. Additionally, they are starting the current World Test Championship cycle with this assignment. India began theirs in the West Indies, winning the first Test before inclement weather forced a draw in the subsequent one.
